Director of Writing Lab and Open-rank Clinical Professor of Law

Job Details

Northwestern Pritzker School of Law invites applications for the position of Writing Lab Director and Clinical Assistant Professor of Law, Clinical Associate Professor of Law, or Clinical Professor of Law. This position is part of the Communication and Legal Reasoning (CLR) program. Northwestern Law is an innovative, top-ranked institution that teaches students to meet the challenges of the complex, competitive, and changing legal and business worlds. Our students are academically exceptional and have strong interpersonal skills. Many students have substantial work experience.

The Writing Lab is a new initiative that the Writing Lab Director will develop and manage, in coordination with numerous other groups at the law school. We anticipate the Director will be responsible for 1) hiring, training, and supervising student Writing Fellows, who can assist all students with various writing projects; 2) planning and staffing writing-related programming in coordination with the other groups; and 3) teaching upper-level writing classes.

We seek applications from candidates with excellent academic records, outstanding writing and editing skills, and experiences that demonstrate their potential for excellence in classroom teaching, as well as the organizational skills necessary to manage what we anticipate will be a very active Writing Lab. A successful applicant must have a JD degree and strong experience as both an attorney and a teacher. We welcome applications from those who would add to the diversity of our faculty.

We plan for this appointment to be for a three-year contract with the potential for renewal to successive three-year contract terms. The expected start date is as soon as possible; our goal is to open the Writing Lab in the fall of 2023. The search committee strongly encourages application by March 24, 2023. Applicants should submit a cover letter and resume or CV via this link: https://facultyrecruiting.northwestern.edu/apply/MTc5OQ==.
