On September 8, September 22 and October 6 The Chicago Committee successfully continued this professional development program for mid- and senior-level associates in member firms. The program provided instruction and experiential learning for the skills and behaviors required for building successful business relationships. Associate participants assigned to teams practiced scenarios that mimic real life encounters, from taking a partner/practice group leader to lunch through making a formal pitch to a real panel of in-house counsel in response to a mock RFQ for legal services.

In Sessions I and II, seasoned member firm partners coached the participants as they practiced the scenarios. In Session III the associates presented their pitch in response to the mock RFQ for legal services. The seven member in-house counsel panel scored the teams’ presentations based on demonstration of the competencies learned during the program. Eight associates who achieved the highest score in four recognition categories – professional presence, substantive competence, empathy and effective communication – were awarded the opportunity to have breakfast or lunch with one of the panel members.
